Poll protest vs. Braganza dismissed

ALAMINOS CITY–Mayor Hernani Braganza hailed the dismissal of the election protest filed against him by former First District Rep. Arthur Celeste whom he beat for the mayoralty race here in the May 2010 election.

Braganza, now on his last and final term of office, said although he has yet to receive a copy of the decision, it already indicates that he won the election in Alaminos “fair and square”.

Celeste, on the other hand, was quoted as saying that the case was dismissed not because of its merits but because he no longer wants to pursue it after realizing the huge expense, ranging from P3 to P5 million, that it will entail.

Provincial Election Officer Timy Lambino explained that without the collection and shipment of the ballot boxes that are subject of the election protest, which was to be at the expense of Celeste as the protestant, the case is good as dismissed.

Alaminos City Election Officer Loida Anonuevo said the Comelec office in Manila was already waiting for all the ballot boxes used in the election for recounting.
