FORMER Agrarian Reform Minister Conrado F. Estrella Sr. died peacefully in his sleep Tuesday evening at the family residence in Quezon City.

Estrella, known as the “Grand Ol’ Man’ of Pangasinan politics, started his political career as mayor of Rosales town and later became governor of Pangasinan in the mid 50s.

He also served as chairman of the Philippine Constitutional Association (Philconsa).

His death was unexpected.

The day before his death, he attended a party in Angeles City, according to daughter Bernadette.

“He even gathered the family earlier and swapped fond banters with everyone,” she added.

Estrella was the guest of honor and speaker during the recent Veterans Day celebration in the province.

He is survived by his wife, the former Sergia Bautista, and children: former Vice Gov. Conrado Estrella Jr., businessman Jaime, Bernadette E. Arellano, and Noemi E. Casino; and grandchildren among whom are former Congressman Conrad Estrella and incumbent partylist Rep. Eskimo Estrella.

His remains were cremated and his urn is at the Christ the King Church at Green Meadows in Quezon City.

The family requests mourners and friends to send donations to God’s Garden of Love Foundation instead of flowers and wreaths.
