A 120-DAY feeding program for 300 severely malnourished children in 10 barangays of Dagupan City was launched last June 2 through the initiative of Vice Mayor Belen Fernandez.

The project will benefit 30 children in each of the 10 barangays of Lucao, Bonuan Gueset, Bonuan Gueset, Bonuan Binloc, Pantal, Malued, Calmay Pugaro, Carael and Salapingao.

Bankrolling the feeding program are: Unilever, P600,000; Mead Johnson, 250 cases of milk donation; the CSI Group of Companies; the City Nutrition Office; Department of Social Welfare and Development; and Kabisig Kalahi Inc.

The beneficiaries, identified by the City Nutrition Office headed by Lea Aquino, are from two to six years old and all coming from among the most impoverished families of Dagupan.

Under the program, there will be 30 children to be fed in every barangay by organizations that will be in charge of selecting and buying the recommended menu and recipe, and cook and serve the sane to the beneficiaries, along with the milk from Mead Johnson.

Fernandez said the feeding program will help address the problem of malnutrition in the city.

The Barangay Nutrition Scholars in each of the 10 identified villages have been tapped to assist in feeding the malnourished children.
