P2,000 – P10,000 REWARD

LINGAYEN–Governor Amado Espino Jr. has now taken his campaign to protect the Pangasinan rivers personally.

The governor is set to pay cash rewards to citizens, including government employees, who will help the provincial government arrest persons dumping garbage or wastes in the any of the province’s rivers and tributaries.

Espino said he decided on the cash reward to raise the stakes in the campaign to protect the rivers as he lamented the continued apathy of many.

“I am taking this personal initiative because pinababayaan lang ng iba,” Espino said.

He said he will pay P2,000 reward to anyone who can identify a violator and P5,000 for a photo showing a violator caught in the act that will lead to their prosecution.

“Anyone who succeeds in arresting or stopping the dumping of garbage in the rivers will be paid P10,000,” he added.

Violators can be reported to local police stations, the Provincial Environmental and Natural Resources Office (PENRO), City Environmental and Natural Resources Office (CENRO) or to the barangay.

Naisip natin ang reward system para malaman ko kung sino ang gumagawa niyan. Namiminsala na sila, talagang nag-iisip na lang para sirain ang programa natin,” Espino said.

The governor announced his reward offer last June 6 during the program for the observance of Environment Month.

Dapat trabaho ito ng PENRO, CENRO at PNP (Philippine National Police) ang panghuhuli ng mga nagpo-pollute sa mga ilog. Pero kahit sila puwedeng tumanggap ng reward,” the governor said.

“This is to underscore my lament for the lack of concern by many. Ang ganda-ganda na ng mga ilog dahil nilinis natin. Napakahirap ng ginawa natin pero may mga nagtatapon ng basura sa ilog,” he told his audience.

The provincial government, through its Task Force Kalikasan, conducted a massive river clean up over the previous months. (With report from PIO)
