Estira gets 2nd term as PSU prexy
LINGAYEN–Despite the controversies surrounding him, Victoriano Estira succeeded in his bid for a second four-year term as president of the government-owned Pangasinan State University (PSU).
The university’s Board of Regents met at the Commission on Higher Education in Manila on June 13 and approved Estira’s reappointment, with eight members giving their nod and two opposing.
The current PSU chair, Caridad Abuan who is the regional director for PSU, headed the board of evaluators that assessed Estira’s performance as PSU president, including the complaints raised against him.
The result of that evaluation was passed to the Board of Regents and used as basis in considering the reappointment of Estira.
Estira, now 61, thanked the board for the decision.
Provincial Board Member Ranjit Ramos Shahani, who has publicly criticized Estira and questioned his reappointment bid, could not be reached for comment.
The members of the provincial board, except for Shahani and Board Member Alfonso Bince Jr., earlier approved a resolution endorsing Estira’s reappointment.
