DAGUPAN’S WOMEN OF DISTINCTION

DAGUPAN’S WOMEN OF DISTINCTION–Pictures of the city’s women pioneers who distinguished themselves in their respective fields were featured in a photo exhibit during the Agew na Dagupan celebration last week at the city museum. (Top Panel) Ignacia “Bai Inacia” C. Bernal, was cited as “pioneer restaurateur” having started the “Dagupena” carinderia in 1928 with her husband Eusebio that has since evolved into the iconic Dagupena Restaurant, a landmark in the city for decades. Her daughters, Emma, presently the manager of Dagupena, and Placida proudly stand by the portrait of their accomplished mother. (Not in photo is daughter Rosario). (Lower Panel) Dra. Generosa Oreta-Dizon, M.D., was cited as the “First Woman Obstetrician of Pangasinan”. She was fondly called “Doctora Oreta”, and remembered for her genuine care, even treating indigent patients for free or modest tokens, such as a few pieces of coconut or a live chicken. She founded the Jesus of Nazareth Clinic, now known as the Nazareth General hospital. Her daughter Nene Dizon-Manas and family friend Lita Garcia read the citation on her. (Punchphotos by Willie Lomibao)
