CAREER SERVICE EXAMS

HIGH school graduates and college degree undergraduates can take the Career Service Professional examination, a requirement for those who want to work in government offices.

Provincial Director Rogelio del Rosario of the Civil Service Commission (CSC) said this policy has been in effect since 2002 but many are unaware of it.

Originally, only college students with at least 72 units covered could take the sub- professional examination while the professional exam was open only to college graduates.

Del Rosario said applicants for the civil service exam now only need to bring four copies of 1 ½” x 2” photo, a valid identification card showing the date of birth, and payment for the P500 examination fee.

He explained that the change in policy is in recognition of new trends in education.

“It is now a reality that there are new modes of learning or acquiring knowledge aside from formal schooling. There is distance learning, e-learning thru cyber schools and open universities as well as learning thru the Internet,” he said.

Del Rosario also stressed that there is no need to enroll in review centers before taking the exam.

“Actually it is prohibited for a review center to conduct review classes for those taking civil service examinations,” he said during the Pantongtongan Tayo radio program of the Philippine Information Agency over Radyo ng Bayan-DZMQ on Tuesday.

The exam covers basics in Math, English (vocabulary, grammar and sentence construction) and other relevant subjects like social awareness and environmental protection.

A sub-professional exam has 170 multiple choice items while the professional exam has 180.

Passing grade is 80 percent.

The Urdaneta City branch of the CSC is now accepting applications for the scheduled October 16 exam. (DOS/PIA Pangasinan)
