City plans to build homes for illegal settlers

THE Dagupan City government plans to construct 600 housing units to relocate illegal settlers, especially those living in riverbanks.

Mayor Benjamin Lim announced the plan last week as he appealed to the city council to help provide funds for the project.

“We have to provide them with dignity by giving them what they can call their own home,” Lim said.

He added that the relocation of squatters will help the city’s effort to rehabilitate the rivers.

The mayor also appealed to other officials to help in the campaign to convince illegal settlers to relocate.

The houses will be built in three areas: 100 units in Sitio Korea, near the seafood processing plant in Bonuan Binloc; 400 at the lot of the Department of Environment and Natural Resources; and 100 at the existing Bangusville II subdivision in Bonuan Gueset. (PIA-Pangasinan)
