City hall men in tiff

MEMBERS of Dagupan’s Task Force Anti-Hawking (TFAH) and the Public Order and Safety Office (POSO) figured in a confrontation Wednesday over a reported violation of traffic laws by a TFAH member.

About 10 to 12 members of TFAH reportedly went to the POSO office on Wednesday morning to confront a POSO enforcer who accosted one of their co-employees for a traffic violation.

Mayor Benjamin Lim, who was in Manila when the incident happened, has directed POSO Chief Robert Erfe Mejia and TFAH head Aguedo Sta. Maria to submit separate incident reports, which he will use as basis for an investigation that he said he will personally undertake.

Erfe-Mejia already submitted an incident report while Sta. Maria has yet to submit his.

It was Sta. Maria himself who led his staff to the POSO office to confront Gerardo Calpo, a POSO enforcer, who arrested a TFAH personnel driving a motorcycle who recklessly counter-flowed traffic on Galvan Street.

Lim said he will not let anyone who caused the incident go unpunished because the incident “caused a black eye to the city and his administration”.

The mayor stressed that the law should be applied to any one without fear.

The TFAH, whose name was not identified, was found to have no driver’s license and the motorcycle he was riding had an expired registration.

During the confrontation, one member of TFAH reportedly hit Calpo, which was witnessed by people that gathered on Zamora Street in front of the POSO office.

The situation calmed down only when Erfe-Mejia came out of his office.
