LINGAYEN–Second District Rep. Leopoldo Bataoil, his daughter, a driver and a police security on detail to the congressman were hurt when their van was bumped by a passenger bus along the national highway in Barangay Poblacion, Bugallon at about 1:00 a.m. of May 5.

Bataoil, his daughter Angela, driver Ruben Escobar Jr. and PO3 Jim Evangelista were all rushed to the Villaflor General Hospital in Dagupan City where they were treated for injuries.

All four have been declared out of danger.

The congressman and his companions came from a barangay fiesta in Aguilar where Bataoil was the guest of honor and speaker and were on their way home to Lingayen, passing through Bugallon town.

The police reported that the accident happened when a Dagupan Bus unit, with Plate No. DAS 578 driven by Bemmy Cainap, 43, of Bagong Silangan, Quezon City, was traversing towards the south direction and tried to avoid hitting a motorcycle.

In avoiding the motorcycle, the bus hit the oncoming vehicle of the congressman, a Nissan Escapade.

When Bataoil’s driver saw the Dagupan Bus coming, he swerved the van to the right to avoid a head-on collision, but was still sideswiped by the bus.

There were no reported injuries among the passengers of the bus while Bataoil was reported to have suffered slight bruises on the head while Angela on her legs.—LM
