THE Sanguniang Panlungsod has fixed the new tricycle fare in Dagupan City at P10 minimum per passenger for the first two kilometers and an additional P2 for every kilometer in excess.

A resolution containing the new rates was unanimously approved by the council in its May 23 regular session at the request of the Federation of Accredited Tricycle Organization in Dagupan City (FATODAG).

The measure amends Ordinance No. 1863-2006, otherwise known as the Revised Tricycle Fare Ordinance of 2006, which set the tricycle fare at P7 minimum.

The new rate will be effective upon approval of the ordinance by the city mayor and its publication.

Members of FATODAG said the old rates are already obsolete considering the continuous increase in the cost of fuel and spare parts.

Councilor Karlos Reyna, assistant majority floor leader and chair on the committee on public works and utilities, said the association originally asked for a P20 minimum fare but this was reduced to just P10 in consideration of the riding public, especially students.

Students and senior citizens will be entitled to a P2 discount and in case of special trips, they pay only P16 pesos instead of P20 minimum per passenger.

For special trips, one or two passengers will be charged P20 per trip and in case of a third passenger, the regular fare applies.

Section 2 of the newly approved ordinance provides that the prescribed fare matrix be posted inside windshield of passenger cab.

Overcharging, refusal to convey passengers and or non-posting of sticker are punishable under the approved ordinance.

Penalties are: P1,000 for the first offense, P1,500 for the second offense, and immediate cancellation of the tricycle franchise for the third offense.—LM
