Centenarian is honored on Mother’s Day

ROSALES–At 101 years old, Inang Isyang is happiest when she is with her children and has money to spend for little things from the sari-sari store.

Lucrecia Tiletile-Tamin, or Inang Isyang as she is fondly called by family and those from her community in Barangay Rizal here, was recently honored by SM City Rosales during its pre-Mothers’ Day celebration.

Interviewed during the celebration, she advised children not to forget their mothers and make them feel important wherever they are and whatever they have achieved in life.

Inang Isyang, born in Urdaneta City on Feb. 13,1910, remains strong and continues to live independently in her own home.

Her eldest son Arcadio, who lives next door to her, said his mother, who used to be a vegetable trader, gets mad if they ask her to take it easy and just relax.

“She doesn’t want to live with us. She wants to stay alone in her own home,” he said.

Inang Isyang said she wants to stay at her house for fear that it will deteriorate if she abandons it.

She also refuses to visit a doctor, asserting that there is nothing physically wrong with her.

She said, with a laugh, that what makes her strong is having money.

Inang Isyang was unable to attend school but while she can’t read nor write, she is good at counting and computing money given her experience in selling vegetables in many areas outside Pangasinan.

Her caretaker Isa, who comes around her house for two hours a day, cooks her favorite dishes like jj manok or baboy and sinigang na bangus.

“I eat almost everything,” the good old mother said.
