Bangus Festival 2011 most peaceful, says police chief
THE number of crime incidents registered during the Bangus Festival this year was the lowest since the annual festival started in 2003.
Only four incidents were reported during the month-long celebration, according to Supt. Romeo Caramat, chief of police.
The crimes reported this year were two cases of pick-pocketing, one cellphone snatching and one bag-slashing.
The victims were students and visitors.
Caramat admitted, however, that none of the suspects have been arrested and that there may have been still some unreported cases.
Caramat, speaking in an interview over Aksyon Radyo, said the police were able to keep the incidents of crime at a minimum with augmentation of personnel from the Provincial Public Safety Management Company (PPSMC) based in Tayug town, and civilian volunteers from such non-government organizations as Deltacom, Kabalikat, FAMI, and Primo.
A security force of 380 personnel was assembled from the initial 140.
“Gusto kong magpasalamat sa mga mahigit dalawang daang katao na nagsilbing force multiplier upang mapanatili ang katahimikan,” he said. (PIA-Pangasinan)
