PIPs stops armed men riding in tandem
LINGAYEN—“Drive-by” killings in Pangasinan by hired killers riding in tandem is believed to have been finally contained with the launching of the Police Integrated Patrol System (PIPS) early this year.
Senior Superintendent Rosueto Ricaforte, police provincial director, said the setting up of more checkpoints and the intensified campaign against loose firearms through the service of search warrants under the PIPS have significantly contributed to the prevention of drive-by-killings which claimed several lives last year and the beginning of this year.
He said the checkpoints had resulted in impoundment of many unregistered motorcycles and units without plates at various police stations. All of the motorcycles used in shootings by men riding in tandem had no plates.
He believes that the numerous checkpoints effectively limited the movements of the hired killers in the province as well.
Meanwhile, Ricaforte said the Police Provincial Office continues to train police personnel on how to become more effective law enforcers.
At least 49 PNP personnel from different police stations have graduated from a week-long unit training called “Back to Basics” last April 14 in line with the PNP Transformation Program.
The graduation of these police personnel was graced by Chief Superintendent Charles Calima, chief of the PNP Training Service.
Ricaforte said the retrained police personnel are now more prepared to handle different types of crisis situations.–LM
