LINGAYEN–This year’s ASNA awards honored seven Pangasinenses who have distinguished themselves in their respective fields of endeavor and have brought honor to the province, led by former House Speaker Jose de Venecia Jr. and National Artist Salvador Flore Bernal.
The Balitok award, the ASNA with highest distinction, was given to De Venecia for Global Leadership award and Bernal for Theater Design.
The other awardees were former Senator Leticia Ramos-Shahani for Foreign Service, Alma Quintans-Kern for International Community Leadership, Engr. Marcelo M. Casillan, Jr. for Community Service, Joyce E. Bernal for Arts and Culture (Film), and Lt. Gen. Arturo B. Ortiz (AFP) for Humanitarian and Military Leadership.
The 2011 ASNA awards were given during the 431st founding anniversary of the province last April 5.
Ma. Luisa Elduayan, Tourism Division Chief, said the awardees were selected by the members of the ASNA search committee chaired by Provincial Administrator Rafael Baraan with the Pangasinan Heritage Society and academicians as its members.
ASNA is the ancient term for asin, where Pangasinan derived its name. (PIO/Ruby R. Bernardino)
