SAN Carlos City–The week-long Mango-Bamboo Festival and Trade Fair will be celebrated here beginning April 24 with various activities lined up to highlight the city’s main agricultural product and bamboo craft.

The Liga ng mga Barangay Night on the 24th will kick-off the celebration followed the next day by a Mango-Bamboo festival parade in the morning after a morning mass in honor of the city’s patron, Saint Domingo de Guzman.

The Miss San Carlos City beauty pageant will be held in the evening.

Vice President Jejomar Binay, who plans to launch a housing project in Barangay Lilimasan here, will be the guest of honor during the festival.

Binay was mayor of Makati City when it forged a sisterhood pact with San Carlos.

On April 26, the city will put on display a big mango pie which it hopes will establish a national or world record. A street party will be held in the evening.

Other events for the rest of the week include a Mayor Julier Resuello Bikers’ Fest sponsored by the Rotary Club of San Carlos, Educators’ Day, a sports fest in coordination with the Kiwanis Club of Amputiy Layag, and the Senior Citizens’ Night, Farmers and Homemakers Day which includes a bamboo craft competition and the Palaro ng Lahi, the Catwalk Diva Fashionista Competition, Drum and Bugle Corps Showdown, the Sangguniang Kabataan’s Variety Show, street dancing competition, the grand-fiesta ball, and a special commemoration for the late Mayor Julian Resuello who was shot and killed on April 30, 2007.

It was the late Resuello patriarch, father of the incumbent mayor and Vice Mayor Joseres Resuello, who expanded what used to be just the Bamboo Festival into what is now the Mango-Bamboo Festival. (CIO)
