FOR “ANTI-PEOPLE” BUDGET

DAGUPAN Councilor Brian Lim, representing his father Mayor Benjamin Lim, continues to lash at the SP for trimming the proposed budget for 2011 by P81 million.

“The original P568 million budget proposed by the executive was slashed down to P487 million, is already indicative on the part of the Sanggunian not to give what is due to the people,” said the younger Lim during the Media in Action forum of the Pangasinan Press Club (PPC) last week.

“So, whether or not this slashed budget is for the people, I would say otherwise. It is actually anti-people. It is politically motivated,” Lim said.

The vice mayor, as SP chair and leader of the majority in the council, was also invited to the forum but declined to appear.

She, instead, sent a text message to PPC president Gonzalo Duque saying, “Much as we like to accept your invitation, we do not want to further divide the Sanggunian and to antagonize the Mayor on issues that have been passed upon. Recent developments, specifically the request of Barangay Captains, with the endorsement from Administrator Vlad Mata for a supplemental budget in the session conducted yesterday attended by the representatives of the executive are positive steps towards Sanggunian’s commitment to continuously address the needs of our constituents and ensure transparency in our local government.”

When asked, however, during the forum to explain the alleged anomalies discovered by the city council during the budget deliberations, in the disbursement of city funds last year, Lim simply challenged his colleagues in the city council to sue the city mayor and others instead of just talking about it in the media.

“Why not sue them?” came his reply.

The members of the city council refused to comment on young Lim’s challenge when pressed for their reaction.
