Colorum tricycles defy city ordinance

IF you think the Dagupan City is swarming with too many tricycles, that’s because colorum operators continue to ply the city’s streets.

This has prompted legitimate tricycle operators in Dagupan to seek the city government’s help in getting rid of colorum operators and those who continue to operate even with an expired franchise.

Meanwhile, Public Order and Safety Office (POSO) chief Robert Erfe-Mejia said in a recent radio gave the assurance that his office continues to apprehend anyone driving a tricycle with an expired franchise.

He assured that his department’s field men are vigorously monitoring tricycles plying the city to ensure that only those with legitimate licenses are operation.

Erfe-Mejia explained that colorum operators are taking advantage of the seeming confusion brought about by the situation where there are no easily distinguishable marks between new stickers and the old ones which are about to expire or have already expired.

He also advised the operators and drivers to always carry with them the mayor’s permit, or a certification from the One Stop Shop as proof that they have already renewed their franchises.

“It is for the good of the legitimate operators,” he stressed.

Erfe-Mejia had earlier requested a budget of P600, 000 for the printing of high quality vinyl stickers for 2,500 tricycles, another 2,500 for fare matrix stickers, as well as number and color-coded stickers for 3,705 public utility vehicles.

He lamented that POSO was given only P120,000 for its spending this year. (PIA-Pangasinan)
