Capitol distributes free nets to fishermen

RIVERS that have been cleared under the provincial government’s “Ilog Ko, Bilayen Tan Aroen Ko” program are now open for fishing.

With this development, Governor Amado Espino Jr., assisted by the Provincial Disaster Risk Reduction Management Council (PDRRMC) that implemented the river clean-up program, distributed last week 162 fishnets (tabal) to marginalized fishermen in Bugallon, Binmaley and Lingayen.

Espino said the free fishnets are the provincial government’s livelihood assistance to the fishermen who can now “freely fish along the rivers of Pangasinan”.

The nets are also aimed at encouraging responsible and environment-friendly fishing and stop the proliferation of h or other structures that pollute the rivers.

The river clearing program covered the dismantling of such illegal structures.

“We should not deny our rivers to anybody, we should enjoy it because it is a gift from god,” Espino said.
