TWENTY-EIGHT barangays in the 4th District each received a motorized water pump last week from Rep. Gina de Venecia for the use of farmers to irrigate land in the coming dry months.

The pumps have been endorsed to the Barangay Irrigation Service Association for safekeeping and maintenance.

Earlier this year, De Venecia already distributed 62 similar pumps to her constituents in Mangaldan, San Fabian, San Jacinto, Manaoag and Dagupan City.

The distribution was attended by Sual Mayor John Arcinue, National Irrigation Administration Provincial Manager Helsy Bermudez, and former House Speaker Jose de Venecia Jr., husband of Rep. De Venecia.

De Venecia said the water pumps will help alleviate the impact of another El Niño, which already started in Pangasinan last week.

She noted that farmers’ crops were severely affected in previous years every time the El Niño phenomenon hits.

FLATBED DRYER

De Venecia said she is also planning to provide a flatbed dryer, a post-harvest facility, to each town and city in her district.

Previously, the De Venecia couple invited Dagupan Vice Mayor Belen Fernandez to share in the cost of a flatbed dryer for rice farmers in barangays Lucao, Mangin and Tebeng in Dagupan.

Each dryer can handle the rice harvest from 100 hectares of farmland during the wet season.

The facility will be installed on a lot to be provided by the irrigation service association.

MANAOAG MARKET

Meanwhile, the De Venecia couple also led last week the inauguration of the reconstructed public market of Manaoag, costing P15 million, which was burned last year.

At the inauguration were Manaoag Mayor Napoleon Sales, Board Member Jeremy Rosario, Vice Mayor Kim Amador and members of the Municipal Board.—LM
