Young players called to join Asian Youth Chess

LINGAYEN—It’s time to shine anew for the province’s young wood pushers.

Young chess players are invited to join the 2011 Pangasinan National Age-Group Chess Championship on April 8 to 12 at the Narciso Ramos Sports and Civic Center (NRSCC) here.

The five-day 9-round Swiss-System tournament, organized by the provincial government and the National Chess Federation of the Philippines (NCFP), is open to all youth players under specified age categories.

Qualified to join are girls and boys under the following age categories with specified cut-off birth dates: 18 years and below (January 1, 1993), 16 years and below (January 1, 1995), 14 years and below (January 1, 1997), 12 years and below (January 1, 1999), 10 years and below (January 1, 2001) and, 8 years and below (January 1, 2003).

The winners in this event will represent the Philippines in the Asian Youth Championship slated on May 14 to 22 in Subic, Olongapo.

Registration fee for Pangasinan residents is P100.00 and P250.00 for others.

Participants are required to present their proof of residence and birth certificate upon registration.

2ND ESPINO CHAMPIONSHIP

Meanwhile, the 2nd Governor Amado T. Espino, Jr. Open Chess Championship will be held on April 4 and 5 at the Provincial Library as part of the provincial government’s thrust of promoting sports among Pangasinenses. (PIO)
