Pangasinan bags 7 awards for local governance

LINGAYEN–Pangasinan came home with its hands full of awards.

The province bagged seven out of eight top awards given by the Regional Development Council (RDC) for 2010, besting the three other Ilocos Region provinces of Ilocos Norte, Ilocos Sur and La Union.

The awards garnered were 1) Best Provincial LGU Millenium Development Goal (MDG) Project Implementer, 2) Best Project Implementer, 3)  Best Poverty Reduction Program Implementer; 4) Champion-2009 Search for the Best LGU Province based on Local Government Performance Management System, 5) Champion-2010 Search for the LGU Best Practices, 6) Hall of Fame Award-National Statistics Month celebration 2008 to 2010, and 7) Hall of Fame Award- Most Outstanding Coastal Resource Management Implementer 2009-2010.

The province was 1st runner-up-Search for the Cleanest, Greenest and Safest Province.

Provincial Administrator Rafael Baraan said the province is now setting its sights on winning awards at the national level.

The Hall of Fame Award for the National Statistics Month celebration was n recognition of three consecutive years of bagging the championship award for its outstanding implementation of various statistics-related activities.

The award for Most Outstanding CRM was in recognition of the province’s programs and achievements in protecting and conserving its coastal resources.

The MDG award relates to accomplishments in the area of poverty reduction, maternal health and child care, caring for the environment and other basic concerns of local government on good governance.

Pangasinan was also champion for the Best LGU Province in Region I based on the local government’s performance management system which serve as a model in the promotion of efficient, effective and transparent local governance practices in Region I.

For LGU Best Practices, Pangasinan was also adjudged champion for its project on “Enhanced Hospital Management System”, which involved the rehabilitation of all 14 government-owned hospitals and the enhancement of hospital facilities.

The only award where Pangasinan came in second was for the Cleanest, Greenest and Safest Province in the region, which was topped by La Union.

Governor Amado Espino Jr. thanked all the provincial government officials and employees, particularly the utility workers, security guards and administrative aides, for working hard to support the present administration attain its mission in making Pangasinan “number one.”
