LINGAYEN–The provincial government’s OFW Desk and Crisis Hotline Center was inaugurated here Thursday to assist Pangasinenses and their families who are working in the North African and the Middle Eastern countries which are currently experiencing civil unrests.

Eight overseas Filipino workers (OFWs) from Pangasinan who just arrived from Libya, along with relatives of others who remain stranded in that country, were present during the inauguration rites.

Governor Amado Espino Jr. and Sixth District Board Member Ranjit Ramos Shahani led the inauguration of the center which is under the Office of the Governor.

Shahani authored the provincial ordinance for the creation of the help desk, which is tasked to coordinate with other government agencies and the relatives of OFWs when Pangasinenses working abroad need special assistance.

Espino said the office is a “modest help of the provincial government” to OFWs who leave home to provide for their families.

The OFWs present during the inauguration were also given P10,000 each by the provincial government as assistance.

The OFW Desk which provides free overseas calls to OFWs anywhere in the world, is open 24/7.—LM
