Health campaign launched in Dagupan barangays
THE Kalusugan Ng Barangay (KNB) program, which gives special attention to mother and child welfare, was launched in Barangay Pugaro, Dagupan City last Tuesday.
Councilor Jesus Canto, the program proponent along with the Rotary Club of Metro Dagupan, said the KNB is not just an ordinary medical mission but a total approach to health care.
The KSB, which will be conducted in all the city’s barangays, will provide free consultation and medicines to the people and teach personal hygiene and good health practices.
Four nurses from the Department of Health are participating in the project to help educate mothers, especially those expecting a child, on how to take care of themselves.
“Since doctors are not easily accessible in the barangays, we teach the mothers how to stay healthy and how to recognize the danger signs that should compel them to bring their children to the hospital,” Canto, himself a doctor, said.
Educating mothers on health practices, he added, will help prevent high mortality and morbidity among mothers and their babies.
The program will also stress the value of breastfeeding and the vaccination of children to immunize them from various diseases.
