CSI GROUP 25th ANNIVERSARY

THE City Supermarket Inc. (CSI), headquartered in Dagupan with branches around Pangasinan and neighboring provinces, will celebrate its silver anniversary in April 15- May 16 this year with various activities open to the public.

“The CSI silver anniversary celebration is open to the public not only from Dagupan and Pangasinan but also the Ilocos Region,” said Dagupan Vice Mayor Belen Fernandez whose family owns the CSI group.

Fernandez, however, lamented that the company’s celebration of its milestone is being subjected to a “ridiculous political intrigue,” as she clarified that CSI’s celebration is in no way intended to compete with Dagupan City’s Bangus Festival, which is also scheduled during the same period.

She said branches in the region will also mark the celebration with own activities.

A series of trade, educational and entertainment activities are lined up for the 30-day celebration.

“Those who are saying that I will put up a parallel Bangus Festival activity may just be out of their mind or are just affected by their own paranoia,” said Fernandez who chaired the Bangus Festival from 2007 to 2010 during the administration of Mayor Alipio Fernandez Jr.

“I’m proud with what we have done for the Bangus Festival, and like everyone else, I hope the organizers this year will deliver their best too” she said.

She introduced the ‘Gilon-gilon’ street dance, one of the highlights of the Bangus Festival, a dance step that was established when Dagupan celebrated its 50th Golden Year in June 20, 1997, an event that Fernandez chaired.

Meanwhile, the vice mayor said one project that she is strongly supporting is the ‘Gulayan at Luntian sa Barangay’ of the different public schools in the city under the Department of Education.

The program promotes backyard vegetable gardens in schools and households. –LM
