Hawaiians Visit Pangasinan Capitol
LINGAYEN—County officials of Kaua’i in Hawaii headed by Mayor Bernard Carvalho were greatly impressed with the beauty of the Capitol when they visited the province recently.
The 22-man delegation from the County of Kaua’i could not hide their admiration as they were escorted by the provincial tourist guides around the Capitol Complex starting from the offices situated at the Capitol building, the grandiose Sison Auditorium, Veterans Memorial Park and the Capitol Resort Hotel.
They were also toured to the Hundred Islands in Alaminos City and enjoyed the sight of the islands and the beaches.
Malu Elduayan, chief of the tourism operations division of the province, said the Hawaiian nationals were so amazed to find such tourism facilities in Pangasinan.
Carvalho and the other members of the delegation composed of county officials were also heartened by the very warm reception and hospitality of Filipinos, particularly the people in the region.
Chinky Perez, tourism officer of Urdaneta City, said the County of Kaua’i delegation which also included Filipinos who have become residents of the county, came to the Philippines to visit the various cities in Region I with whom they have established sisterhood, including Urdaneta.
The group who were on a 14-day tour to select cities in the Philippines also visited Ilocos Sur, Ilocos Norte and Abra.
While in the Philippines, Carvalho expressed interest in establishing an exchange student program between the Urdaneta City University and University of Kaua’i.
Carvalho likewise disclosed that he plans to put up a slaughterhouse back in his country like the slaughterhouses in Urdaneta upon observing the cleanliness in their operations.
Carvalho and his wife Regina said their visit to the province was one of their most unforgettable trips outside of their country as they reiterated the warm welcome they received from the Pangasinenses as well as the people in the whole region. (PIO)
