THE City Health Office (CHO) of Dagupan will conduct a massive immunization drive starting this month in conjunction with the Department of Health’s annual national campaign to reduce the number of children at risk of getting measles-rubella (German measles).

City Health Officer Dr. Leonard Carbonell said this year’s theme “Iligtas sa Tigdas and Pinas,” aims to achieve at least 95 percent measles immunization coverage of all targeted children born between May 3, 2003 to July 2010.

“We will conduct a citywide door to door immunization to wipe out the disease,” Carbonell said.

“The CHO will be mobilizing vaccination teams that will visit every home to immunize children nine months to 95 months or seven years to 11 months targeting about 32, 577 eligible population of children,” he added.

Measles is a highly contagious viral disease transmitted through airborne droplets, which is coupled with fever, cough, cold, watery and reddish eyes and rash that cover the face and spreads all over the body.

Carbonell explained that if a child has no vaccination and not treated immediately, complications can occur like convulsions, pneumonia, encephalitis, ear infections and diarrhea. (CIO)
