Barangays take center stage in Gilon-Gilon Fest
2011 BANGUS FESTIVAL
DAGUPAN’S 31 barangays will participate in the Gilon Gilon ed Dalan street dancing competition on April 28, one of the highlights of the city’s annual Bangus Festival.
“Cash prizes will be much higher than last year for the champion, first and second runners-up while the special awards will be for the Best in Street Dancing and Best in Costume,” said event chairperson Childe Libertad.
Beep-Beep Tan, one of the chairmen of the Bangus Festival 2011 committee, earlier said the city will give the center stage to the barangays in the street dancing event.
The Gilon Gilon dance depicts the harvesting of bangus, one of the city’s main industries.
Six visiting groups will participate as exhibition dances.
Other events lined up for this year’s Bangus Festival include: the Bangus ed Karosa float parade on April 25, Bangus Rodeo and 101 Ways to Cook Bangus on April 29, and the Kalutan ed Dalan street party on April 30.
PIGAR-PIGAR FESTIVAL
The Pigar-Pigar Festival is scheduled on April 15 and 16, with pigar-pigar stall owners themselves handling the event.
Pigar-Pigar, another one of Dagupan’s popular local products, is a dish of fried carabeef served with onions and vegetables on the side.
Rommel Cerezo, head of the Dagupan City Pigar-Pigar Association, said there will be a motorcade in the morning of April 15, several cooking contests in the afternoon and the induction of the officers of the group.
