Search on for 2011 ASNA Awards
LINGAYEN–The search is on for the 2011 ASNA Awards, one of the highlights of the celebration of 431st foundation anniversary of Pangasinan on April 5.
Ma. Luisa Elduayan, provincial tourism officer, said the search is open to all Pangasinenses who did not only excel in their various fields but have contributed to the welfare of other people using their field of specialization.
The search will cover various categories, including government service, community service, arts and culture, medicine, agricultural development, mass communications, business and entrepreneurship, science and technology, education, law and sports.
ASNA is an old variation of the Pangasinan word asin to describe the good quality of a man’s character or his demeanor.
Nominees must be Filipino citizens, born in Pangasinan or has Pangasinan ancestry; not an incumbent elected public official; must be proud to be a Pangasinense; must possess the qualifications as stated in the rules; should be alive and able to attend the awards night. .
Deadline for submission of entries this year is March 15.
The Search and Awards Committee is chaired by Provincial Administrator Rafael Baraan with the Pangasinan Heritage Society and members of the academe as members.
Awardees last year included Santiago Villafania (Arts and Culture), Rina Jimenez-David (Mass Communications), Menardo Jimenez (Business Industry), Dr. Westly Rosario (Aquaculture), Dr. Francisco Duque III (Medicine and Public Health), P/Supt. Eric E. Noble (Community Service), Reynaldo Villar (Government Service), and Rodolfo C. Cardozo (Sports).
Former President Fidel V. Ramos and National Artist for Literature Francisco Sionil Jose were the first recipients of the Balitok (golden metal) Award.
Special recognition was also accorded to Jaime P. Lucas, born in Ilocos Norte to a Pangasinense mother, who organized Pangasinan writers and founded the Ulopan na Pansiansiay Salitan Pangasinan.
