San Carlos City councilwoman shot dead
SAN CARLOS CITY– The killing of barangay officials in the province continue. This time a barangay official of the city was shot dead last February 6 in again an attack by guns-for-hire riding in tandem on a motorcycle.
The fatality was identified as Councilwoman Candida Posadas, 51, of Barangay Quintong here, wife of former San Carlos Councilor Butch Posadas, also a former barangay chairman in Quintong.
The police have yet to establish the motive for the killing.
Investigation showed that Posadas was shot while on board as a motorcycle as a back-rider after attending a barangay council meeting and was on the way home.
She sustained one gunshot wound on the left side of her face and died on the spot.
The driver of the motorcycle she was riding was unscathed.
Crime scene investigators recovered two empty shells of Cal. 45 pistol.
Police Provincial Director Senior Superintendent Rosueto Ricaforte immediately created a task force to investigate the killing following an order from Chief Superintendent Franklin Bucayu, police regional director, to solve the case as soon as possible.
Bucayu said it is unfortunate that the incident happened even as police checkpoints are still being maintained in many areas.
Posadas was the second barangay official slain by armed men riding in tandem on a motorcycle since the start of the year.
The first was Barangay Captain Arsenio Bucao, 49, of Tocok in San Fabian, whose suspected killer has been identified but remains at large.
The killing, believed to be politically-motivated, happened on the night of January 20 during one of the nights of the San Fabian fiesta celebration.
Drive-by shootings have become widespread in various towns in the province, prompting the police to implement a “two-strike” policy subjecting the town police chief to automatic relief if two shooting incidents take place in his area and remain unsolved within a month’s period.—LM
