Pangasinan remains as region’s biggest tax base
HAVING the biggest population in Region 1, Pangasinan remained the top tax contributor in 2010 in the region.
Atty. Ernesto de Vota, Bureau of Internal Revenue (BIR) Assistant Regional Director, said the province contributed almost half of the P5.9 billion collection last year.
The amount registered a 24.31 percent increase from the 2009 collection.
“Mahigit kalahati ng collection ay galing sa Pangasinan. It even made up for areas where collection decreased and still resulted in the over-all increase,” De Vota said during the KBP Forum held at the Philippine Information Agency office last week.
The BIR has six collection offices in the region, three of which are in Pangasinan.
Collections for last year per office are: Revenue District Office No. 4 located in Calasiao town, P1.6 billion; RDO 5 in Alaminos City, P579 million; and RDO 6 in Urdaneta City, P854.7 million.
The other three divisions and their collections are: RDO 1 in Laoag City, P761.7 million; RDO 2 in Vigan City, P962.9 million; and RDO 3 in La Union, P1.1 billion.
De Vota attributed the good collection performance of the region to the cooperation of the taxpaying public and the bureau’s intensified tax collection strategies like the ‘Oplan Kandado’, wherein commercial establishments that are not paying or under-declaring their taxes are temporarily locked down.
De Vota also encouraged consumers to join the BIR’s Instant Premyo sa Resibo promo where consumers can win over P1 million and at the same time help the government ferret out fake receipts issued by businessmen. (PIA)
