LINGAYEN–A resolution was filed before the Sangguniang Panlalawigan (SP) seeking the establishment of an OFW Assistance Center in Pangasinan to be placed under the Office of the Governor.

Sixth District Provincial Board Member Ranjit Ramos Shahani authored the proposal for a permanent office at the provincial capitol that will help address the needs of Pangasinenses working as overseas Filipino workers.

This office, he said, is necessary as there are 10 million OFWs in the Philippines, of which around four million are undocumented and need assistance in applying for amnesty to protect them from further predicaments.

Shahani said he realized this urgent need when he helped in the repatriation of four OFWs from Pangasinan, three of whom were discovered to be undocumented.

The kin of these OFWs sought Shahani’s help after failing to get immediate assistance from concerned national government agencies.

The OFW Assistance Center, he said, can be the contact center for the kin of OFWs who may require help.–LM
