A COMMISSION with multi-sector representatives was recently created in Dagupan in a bid to intensify the city’s campaign against illegal drugs.

The commission has been tasked to plan for the effective apprehension and prosecution of suspects involved in the illegal drug trade.

Its members will be composed of representatives from the city police, prosecutor’s office, National Bureau of Investigation, Philippine Drug Enforcement Agency, Criminal Detection and Investigation Agency, Department of Education, Liga ng mga Barangay, Sangguniang Kabataan, Dagupan Practical Shooting Association and non-government organizations.

Mayor Benjamin Lim, vowing his full support in the campaign against illegal drugs, told Supt. Romeo Caramat, the police chief, “to exhaust all resources available to PNP Dagupan, and my office top achieve that objective.”

Lim also pledged to provide additional patrol cars as requested by the police to replace the unserviceable and dilapidated units.

The number of crimes recorded in Dagupan last year was 226, lower than the 271 in 2009. The police reported a 94 percent crime solution efficiency.

Lim said maintaining peace and order in the city is an integral component in the promotion of tourism in the city, which in turn contributes to the economy. (PIA Pangasinan)
