Medical mission, mangrove planting held in Binmaley
BINMALEY–Some 3,000 residents of Barangays Caloocan Sur, Dupo and Salapingao here were among the first beneficiaries of the provincial government’s new “Adopt a Barangay Project” dubbed “Puso mo Para sa Ilog ko, Handog Pang-kalusugan at Pagtatanim ng Pakar”.
Free medical assistance, preventive health activities, and mangrove planting were undertaken on February 18 in the three barangays.
The activity was spearheaded by the Pangasinan Provincial Hospital (PPH) with the support of the Provincial Health Office (PHO), Provincial Disaster Risk Reduction Management Council (PDRRMC) Office of the Provincial Agriculturist (OPAg), Provincial Task Force Kalikasan and General Services Office (GSO).
According to PDRRMC Executive Officer Paterno Orduña, the medical mission was personally initiated by Governor Amado Espino Jr.
Dr. Jackson Soriano, PPH chief, said the medical mission has been tied to the “Ilog Ko, Bilayen Tan Aroen Ko” program, an environmental advocacy campaign of the Espino administration.
“Massive river clean-up was the first stage, and bringing this medical services to the grassroots was the second,” Soriano said.
Aside from medical assistance, residents were provided information on sanitation, importance of safe water, sanitary toilet and prevention of dengue, neo-natal and maternal care, and proper hand washing and brushing of teeth.
The medical mission will be undertaken every six months.
MANGROVE PLANTING
Meanwhile, 4,000 seedlings of mangroves (Pakar) were planted along the three barangays’ river banks as part of the provincial government’s Coastal Resources Management program.
The provincial officials signed a Memorandum of Agreement with the three chairmen of the three barangays for the protection and conservation of the sawers and other natural resources of Pangasinan.(PIO)
