Golf driving range opens in Lingayen
LINGAYEN–Local and visiting golfers have a new venue.
A new driving range with modern facilities is now open at the back of the provincial government-owned Capitol Resort Hotel here.
Governor Amado Espino Jr., who initiated the upgrading of the Capitol Resort Hotel and the entire capitol area, said the driving range is intended to provide tourists another activity and reason to visit Pangasinan.
In a simple ceremony last February 20, the governor led the inauguration of the range attended by his “mistahs” in the Philippine Military Academy’s Masigasig Class of 1972.
Espino urged Pangasinenses particularly senior citizens to play golf aside from other sports.
“Since we already have this driving range and an 18-hole golf course in one to two years, you can pass by Pangasinan on your way up to Baguio, then you can come back to play golf from sunrise to sunset after the parade at PMA,” Espino told his mistahs, most of whom play golf.
Ret. General Alejandro Flores, incoming president of the Masigasig Class after incumbent president Ret. General Divino ‘Bing’ Valencia, described the newly inaugurated driving range as “Amazing!”
Espino, who has a 15 handicap, admitted that golf is not really his sport but is determined to promote this, as it will help in the province’s tourism industry.
The driving range was designed by Crisanto Pascual, currently superintendent of the Caliraya Springs Golf and Country Club Inc. in Cavinte, Laguna.
SEA VIEW
Facing the sea, the facility is 181 yards long and 44.4 yards wide and can accommodate at least 15 players at any given time. Spotlights are currently being installed to allow for night time use.
The driving range is open to the public at a nominal cost of initially P80 per basket of golf balls.
“Maganda siya, nasa tabi ng dagat. Kung pumapalo ka, nasa harap mo ang dagat… This is a standard driving range and one of the best in the whole country,” said Pascual, who trained twice in golf course management in the United States.
GOLF COURSE
Meanwhile, the 18-hole golf course is now being constructed in the province’s 200-hectare eco-tourism zone in Barangays Sabangan and Malimpuec, also here at the capital town of Lingayen.
The governor said the project might be completed in one or one and a half year.
