Filipinas Wado Ryu Karate 2nd in Okazaki Cup

THE Filipinas Wado Ryu Karate played an outstanding and inspired game in the 5th Okazaki International Karate Cup held at the Meralco Theater in Pasig City.

The Wado Ryu karatekas won 8 gold, 4 silver, and 9 bronze to capture the 2nd runner-up overall trophy.

Two prominent lawyers of Pangasinan led the medal harvest, namely Atty. Farah Decano, gold in Women’s Meter Cup, and Atty. Ferdinand Parayno, gold in Men’s Master Cup.

Other medalists were John Matthew Manantan who won gold in Kumite; John Enrico Vasquez, gold Kumite and bronze in advance Kata; Jeramiel Gutierrez, gold Kumite; John Marc Claveria, silver Novice Kata and gold Kumite; Gilbert Arellano, silver Intermediate KATA; Keiffer Espino, silver Kunite; and Kristelle Zabala, silver Kumite.

Players who received a bronze medal each were Alexies Louise Nunez, Rayson Decano, Mark Andrew Manantan, Raniela Isabel Gutierrez and Simon Marquez.

Dr. Enrico Vasquez, PKF director and Wado chief, said the team is ready for the 24th PKF National Open Karate Championship and Qualifying Match for the Asian Koi in Malaysia and the Asian AKF 2012 which the Philippines will host.
