LINGAYEN–For the fourth consecutive year, the young athletes of Bolinao dominated this year’s 5th Pangasinan 1 Division Olympic Games held at the Narciso Ramos Sports and Civic Center last week.

Dr. Alfredo Nipal, PESS Education Program Specialist 1, said the town’s contingent was well represented in almost all the events, and excelled particularly in the field of athletics.

“Bolinao athletes had the edge in the athletics competition because they were well-prepared, focused and determined to win,” Nipal said.

The four-day sports event which formally opened on February 8, was participated in by more than 4,000 elementary and high school students.

Winners in the division meet will automatically represent Pangasinan 1 in the upcoming Ilocos Region Athletics Association (IRAA) Meet in March while some athletes from the losing contingents will be selected to join the delegation.

Vice Governor Jose Ferdinand Calimlim, Jr, who represented Governor Amado Espino Jr. during the opening ceremony, reiterated the provincial government’s full support for sports development and revealed its plan to further improve the capability of Pangasinan athletes through acquisition of better sports facilities.

Dr. Aurora Domingo, Schools Division Superintendent expressed the division’s gratitude.

The 22 towns under Division 1 are: Agno, Aguilar, Anda, Bani, Basista, Bayambang, Binmaley, Bolinao, Bugallon, Burgos, Calasiao, Dasol, Infanta, Labrador, Mabini, Malasiqui, Mangatarem, Mapandan, Sta. Barbara, Sual, Urbiztondo and Lingayen. (PIO)
