Who is the real mayor of Calasiao?
“Ako ang nakaupo, kaya ako ang mayor.”
This was the assertion made by Calasiao Mayor Mark Roy Macanlalay amidst questions as to who is really running the town.
Macanlalay, serving his first term as mayor after winning the election in May last year, succeeded his father, now Vice Mayor Roy Macanlalay, who finished the maximum three terms allowed under the Constitution.
Last year, the question was echoed by a certain Roberto Maramba who posted in the popular social networking site Facebook asking whether it is the Macanlalay son or the father who is in charge of the town.
Maramba also criticized the younger Macanlalay for the supposed lack of development in Calasiao because he could not make decisions on his own.
The mayor said such accusations have no basis and vowed to prove his detractors wrong in time.
“My father is the boss when it comes to family matters, but I am the boss in the town, ” Macanlalay said.
At the same time, the mayor said while he and his father have a good working relationship, he said the elder Macanlalay, who currently presides over the Sangguniang Bayan, is busy with legislation. —Roselle Gale, CdD
