2nd JIMMY FERNANDEZ CUP 2011

COULD it be beginner’s luck?

The league’s greenhorn, the University of Eastern Pangasinan (UEP) team, stunned and repelled all its first four opponents to take the early lead in team standings in the ongoing 2nd Jimmy Fernandez Cup 2011.

The Binalonan-based UEP, with a nom de guerre Patriots, has been showing convincing winning form as the team first clobbered PIMSAT, 90-73, on its maiden game on January 7; then plastered UPang-PHINMA, 84-57, on January 10; subdued defending champion PAMMA, 88-84, on January 12; and conquered title contender University of Luzon Team B, 91-80.

The Patriots, being mentored by Region 1’s well-known basketball tactician Renato “Jack” Vidal, appears to have a habit of engaging coolly in the first two quarters, playing warm in the third period, and finally going on full heat in the fourth and concluding period.

“My boys are always confident every time they play. Their pick-up of play was already developed and I hope our victories will continue despite that the championship is still far from now,” said Vidal.

Hostilities will be on Mondays and Thursdays at DWAD gym starting at 1:00 p.m.–JAG, Jr.
