LINGAYEN–The newest member of the Sangguniang Panlalawigan (SP), John Chester Arcinue, was welcomed by his colleagues on Friday, his first attendance in the board after his election as president of the Sangguniang Kabataan Federation last December 10.

Arcinue, 18 years old, replaced Kasel Celeste who was SK Federation president for Pangasinan from 2007 to 2010.

The son of Sual Mayor John Rodney Arcinue, the young Arcinue is a second year student at the University of Asia and the Pacific taking up Entrepreneurial Management.

“As I assume the responsibility of giving the youth of Pangasinan their representative in Pangasinan, it is a humbling experience to feel your warm welcome,” Arcinue said to the elder members of the SP.

Prior to this, Board Member Alfonso Bince Jr. was quoted as saying that Arcinue may now have committed three absences because officially, he should have assumed as ex-officio provincial board member right after his election.

But Board Member Angel Baniqued came to Arcinue’s defense saying records show it was only on January 7 that Arcinue’s documents were officially received by the SP.

It means, Baniqued added, that Arcinue’s first day in the SP office was January 14.

Provincial Director Domeciano Soriano of the Department of Interior and Local Government said Arcinue immediately submitted the result and the minutes of the election to the Katipunan ng Sangguniang Kabataan in Manila.

Arcinue said as the youth is mandated by the constitution to participate in the development and progress of the nation, “it is my honor and privilege to face this challenge”.—LM
