Price of construction materials, basic needs slightly up
CONSTRUCTION materials and some basic commodities have become more expensive last week compared with prices a month ago, according to the Department of Trade and Industry.
Trade specialist Marjury Loresco said cement is now sold at P200 per bag, P5 higher than the previous price. A 10-mm steel bar now costs P128, up by P10; while a 12-mm bar is priced at P184, up by P14.
A slight price increase was also noted in other commodities such as evaporated filled milk which now costs P43.50, up by 25 centavos. Detergent bars are now on average P.65 higher.
Three brands of hard flour cost between P810 to P840 for a 25-kilo bag, up from P800 to P820.
Loresco noted however, that some commodities are also selling lower like canned sardines which are now P.25 cheaper, and coffee which are P.15 to P.30 lower, powdered filled milk are sold from P1 to P2 less in groceries and supermarkets.
She said supermarkets in Dagupan have been known to sell below the SRPs of basic and prime commodities, making it a popular shopping destination from people in neighboring areas.
Meanwhile, Loresco, who was guest last Thursday at the weekly KBP Forum at the Philippine Information Agency, also announced that the registration and renewal of business names now only take about 15 minutes. This process, including the release of the certificate, used to take days and even weeks.
She said the DTI provincial office observed a higher number of registrants this year, with a daily average of 50 from only between 10 to 20, attributing the increase to more business-friendly local government units. (PIA Pangasinan)
