Pangasinan leaders pay homage to Nancy
LINGAYEN–Leaders in the province joined together in paying homage to the late Nancy Q. Sison, the first elected woman vice governor and acting governor of Pangasinan and in the Philippines, in a necrological service held at the Sangguniang Panlalawigan Session Hall on January 10.
Sison, who passed away on January 3 at age 87, was well remembered for her services and achievements not only as a leader and public servant but also as a wife and mother to her seven children.
Gov. Amado Espino, Jr, represented by his brother Board Member Amadeo, referred to Sison as a “rare jewel towering as an inspiration to people she has served where she saw to it that thousands of lives among the Filipino poor and needy were touched.”
Former Governor Conrado Estrella, Sr., now 93, said Sison “impressively contributed a finer stone in the edifice” of public service.
Board Member Alfie Bince, the oldest and longest-serving provincial council member, hailed Sison as a public servant for bringing honor to the province as well as a mother for bringing up children who carried on her “characteristic of excellence”.
Amelita Sison-Navarro, a niece who followed in Sison’s public service footsteps as she is now the elected mayor of Santiago City in Isabela, said her Aunt Nancy was a very remarkable person who imbued in her the passion of service.
Second District Rep. Leopoldo Bataoil, who referred to the late governor as “Ninang Nancy”, remembered her for providing him words of inspiration in his political journey.
Irene Libunao, mayor of San Fabian and concurrently president of the Girl Scouts of the Philippines (GSP)-Pangasinan Chapter, said Sison was a role model to emulate.
Sison was the founder and first president of the GSP-Pangasinan Council.
Her other distinctions include: the number one councilor of Lingayen town, undersecretary of the Social Welfare Department, commissioner for the National Commission on Role of Filipino Women, and a presidential awardee as the Woman Politician of the Year in 1957.
At the end of the necrological service, the members of the provincial board handed a copy of an approved resolution to the members of the Sison family expressing their heartfelt condolences.
Judge Anthony Sison and Mita Sison-Duque, the eldest son and daughter of Sison, expressed their gratitude for the honor accorded their mother.
