Overseas doctors hold medical missions
THREE foreign-based medical groups are currently in the province conducting various medical missions in hospitals.
The groups are German Interplast, Philippine Medical Society of Florida, Inc., and UP- MASA (California) arrived to hold the medical missions upon the invitation of the provincial government.
German Interplast, a 10-doctor team from Germany, is conducting a surgical mission for children with cleft palate and cleft lip at the Pangasinan Provincial Hospital in San Carlos City from January 23 to February 4.
The team from the Philippine Medical Society of Florida, Inc., composed of 82 doctors and nurses, will be at the Eastern Pangasinan District Hospital in Tayug from January 31 to February 4 to conduct a medical-surgical-dental mission. They will treat patients with thyroidectomy, hernia, and cataract, among others.
UP-MASA will be conducting a medical mission at the Western Pangasinan District Hospital on February 9.
Dra. Anna Maria Theresa De Guzman, chief of the Provincial Health Office (PHO), which is coordinating the missions, said the medical, surgical and dental missions were requested by Governor Amado T. Espino, Jr. as part of the government’s health service program.
The missions’ volunteers will also be exchanging medical and technology developments with the personnel of the local hospitals. (PIO)
