LINGAYEN–At 100 years old, Glicerio Valdez Sr. will receive the honor as the oldest living World War II veteran in Pangasinan during the celebration of the 66th Lingayen Gulf Landing anniversary and Veterans’ Day on January 10.

Valdez, who lives in Alcala town, is Filipino by birth and a retired U.S. Army sergeant.

VALDEZ

He was 34 years old when he joined the allied liberation forces, composed of Americans, Australians and other nationalities, that landed on the shores of Lingayen on January 9, 1945 to liberate Luzon from the Japanese invaders.

Dr. Anna Ma. Teresa de Guzman, provincial health officer and chair of the event, said their committee’s search for the oldest WWII veteran in the province led to Valdez.

Valdez is also one of the few living Pangasinenses who stood witnesses to the Lingayen Gulf landing that took place from January 9 to 23, 1945 along the entire coast of the Lingayen Gulf, covering the towns of San Fabian, Dagupan, Binmaley, Lingayen, Labrador and Sual in the west.
