THE P50 bill in the new generation series issued by the Bangko Sentral ng Pilipinas (BSP) will be launched in Dagupan on January 17 at the BSP branch in Dagupan.

Beta Cervantes, BSP deputy director, said this will be the first time that one of the denominations in the new generation series will reach Pangasinan ahead of the other regions.

Printing is now on full-blast operations at the BSP in Manila for 35 million pieces of the new generations series of the P20, P50, P100, P200, P500 and P1,000 bills.

Cervantes said all the denominations are now in circulation in Manila but it takes time before all these are distributed in all the regions of the country.

The new bills have seven security features, among them is emboss printing and serial numbers that are different from the old bills.

While the bills in the new generation series are being released, the old bills remain as legal tender until 2014, said Cervantes said, adding that the old bills are now 25 years old and need to be retired.–LM
