Manay Gina elected lady legislators’ prexy
FOURTH District Rep. Gina “Manay Gina” de Venecia has been elected president of the Association of Lady Legislators of the 15th Congress.
Previous to her election, a manifesto of support for Manay Gina’s leadership was signed by the lady legislators citing her qualities and accomplishments as an excellent woman advocate and defender.
For thirteen years starting in 1992, De Venecia was the president of the Congressional Spouses Foundation, Inc, during which she championed the cause of abused women through the establishment of The Haven for Women in Alabang with 15 regional centers nationwide.
The Association of Lady Legislators, composed of 64 representatives from different political parties and affiliation, is an organization which works for the common goal of advancing women’s agenda in the House of Representatives.
Among the more prominent members of the association are former President Gloria Macapagal-Arroyo, representative from Pampanga, and former First Lady Imelda Romualdez Marcos from Ilocos Norte.—LM
