It’s P5 – P8 daily wage hike
IN REGION I
THE labor sector in Region 1 has been granted a daily wage increase of between P5 to P8 in a wage order promulgated by the Regional Tripartite Wage and Productivity Board (RTWPB) in Region 1, set to become effective January 20.
The new minimum daily wage rate in the Ilocos Region now ranges from P228 to P248 depending on the industry. Other regions set varied hike levels.
The last wage order was promulgated on June 22, 2008.
Eduardo Poserio, chairman of the Employers Confederation of the Philippines (ECO) chapter in Region 1 and member of RTWPB representing the management sector, said with the new wage increase, RTWPB 1 unanimously approved the integration of the existing P10 daily Cost of Living Allowance (COLA) into the basic wage and a new wage adjustments from P5 to P8 in the daily basic wage.
The board said that the effect of the P5 to P8 increase in the daily basic wage and the integration of the P10 existing COLA into the basic wage will generate P2.48 per day value added in the net take home pay of the workers.
Poserio added that the integration of the P10 daily COLA into the basic wage would have a value-added impact on the worker’s 13th Month Pay, holiday pay, service incentive leave (SIL) and overtime pay per day at P1.51 and P.0 97, respectively or a total of P2.48 per day.
Under the new wage order, workers across all industries/sectors which posted a fast and moderate growth rate in high and medium wage band will get an additional P8 daily wage.
On the other hand, workers across all industries/sectors in the low wage band regardless of their economic performance on the basis that they are micro establishments and showing slow growth rates get a P5 daily wage increase.
