Fire strikes Urbiztondo school twice in 2 days
IT happened in a town with its own fire truck but no firemen.
The Urbiztondo Central School in Poblacion, Urbiztondo caught fire twice for two consecutive days, January 11 and 12, over the same cause – faulty electrical wiring.
Fortunately, no one was reported hurt in both incidents.
The school, however, did not suspend classes and all scheduled activities proceeded using other available spaces inside the campus.
But Urbiztondo Mayor Ernesto Balolong lamented the unusual occurrences as he called attention to his municipality’s plight of having its own fire truck but no firemen assigned to the town and no fire station.
Balolong said he has a standing request with the Bureau of Fire Protection (BFP) to build fire station for the town.
Urbiztondo’s situation is similar to other municipalities in Pangasinan.
6 CLASSROOMS BURNED
The first fire razed to the ground three classrooms for Grades V and VI pupils while the second burned three other classrooms for Grade IV pupils.
Police investigation indicated that both fires appeared to have been caused by faulty electrical wiring.
The day after the first blaze, a local electrician was reportedly called to fix the electric wiring but when power was restored, another set of wires triggered the next fire.
