Dagupan intensifies tax collection drive
DAGUPAN City, through its One Stop Business Center (OSBC), has reportedly collected P40 million in taxes for the period January 3 to 20, which is already more than 70% of the P54 million total collection for the whole of last year.
The increase in tax collection follows the local government’s intensified tax-mapping campaign undertaken by the city treasurer’s office against delinquent taxpayers here.
Local Treasury Operations Officer III Carmen Olpindo attributed the increase in collection in part to the closure order against business firms that have not paid the required business permits and renewed licenses in the past.
“Marami sa mga taxpayers natin ang nagbayad to beat the closure order kaya tumaas ang collection natin,” said Olpindo.
Another part of the strategy was to widen the taxpayers’ base, according to Olpindo.
“Na-widen lang yung taxpayers base natin kaya ganito kalaki ang collection natin sa business permit and license, real property, community tax (individual and corporate), and miscellaneous,” she said.
The deadline for tax payments was January 20 and no extension has been issued. Those paying thereafter will be charged a one-time 25 percent surcharge and two percent interest for every month of delay.
“More or less 4,000 business taxpayers have already settled their accounts to the city, but we are expecting a total of more than 5,000 business taxpayers this year,” said Olpindo. (CIO)
