Bugallon honors its hero and farmers
BUGALLON–Farmers of this agricultural town shared honors with the late General Jose Torres Bugallon, the local hero after whom the municipality was named, during the celebration of the 16th Bugallon Day on January 12.
One of the day’s highlights was the Carabao Festival wherein dressed-up carabaos were paraded around town to compete for the “best-dressed carabao” award.
Municipal councilors, employees, barangay officials, students and street dancers also joined the parade.
Mayor Rodrigo Orduna said the farmers are considered among the most important members of the town as symbolized by the statue of a farmer with his carabao displayed beside the Municipal Hall.
Meanwhile, the event also focused on Gen. Bugallon, a half Filipino-half Spanish soldier who fought gallantly during the war for Philippine independence from the Spanish colonizers.
The celebration was led by the Philippine national Police Academy (PNPA) and the Northern Luzon Command (NAPOLCOM), whose leaders accompanied municipal officials in the wreath laying ceremony at the monument of Bugallon.
“You need not die to be a hero, but the death of our local hero Gen. Jose Torres Bugallon was exemplary,” said the mayor in his speech.
Second District Rep. Leopoldo N. Bataoil, a former police general, shared the life story of Bugallon and his heroism also hailed Orduna for making the town a “center of quality public service and good governance”.-Guian Charissa Cerezon, CdD
